About Research Data
The journal
Res novae follows the
Decree on the Implementation of Scientific Research Work and the requirements of the Slovenian Research and Innovation Agency, which stipulate that authors must ensure open access to the research data underlying their publication. Data must be prepared in accordance with the
FAIR principles (Findable, Accessible, Interoperable, and Reusable).
Research data include all information collected or generated through various research methods for the purpose of producing knowledge, testing or confirming hypotheses, and drawing conclusions within the research process. If data are not available in digital form, authors are encouraged to consider digitisation, as this facilitates long-term preservation and management in data repositories.
Greater openness of research data enhances the transparency and verifiability of scientific findings and increases their potential for reuse in future research, thereby improving the efficiency of previously invested resources.
Mandatory Data Availability Statement
All articles published in the journal must include a Data Availability Statement. In preparing this statement, authors must take into account the above principles, the requirements of their funders, the specific circumstances of the research, and the epistemological and ethical standards of their discipline.
The statement must indicate the trusted data repository in which the data are stored (or another appropriate means of access). Suitable repositories can be identified through online tools such as
https://fairsharing.org and
https://www.re3data.org.
Examples of Data Availability Statements:
- This article is based on research data stored in ______, which are publicly available at ______.
- This article is based on materials that are not defined as a research dataset. Further information about the materials used is available from the author upon reasonable request.
- This article is based on archival sources listed in the references.
- This article is based on research data that are publicly available or stored in a public archive or museum and are cited in the references.
For further information on research data management in different types of research, authors may contact the editorial office ().
Exceptions to Fully Open Access
Not all sources used by authors necessarily qualify as research data in the strict sense. In certain cases, full open access to data cannot be provided due to legal, ethical, or other justified constraints. In such cases, authors must clearly explain the reasons for restricted access, for example where personal data protection applies.
Citing Research Data
Authors must properly cite all data sources used (see the Instructions for Authors). If data have not been digitised or cannot be made publicly available due to other limitations, they must be adequately described in the Data Availability Statement.
